Meet the Instructors
Brenda Blakely (Yoga Lead)
In all of life’s beautiful and awesome mess, we return to the classical yoga teachings and reconnect with what’s important and meaningful to ourselves. That’s what is precious about yoga. We use postures to grow within the form, the breath to soften the hardness of the thoughts and the mindfulness to experience the most amazing element, the self. Even in a group setting Brenda’s teachings are personal, integral and peaceful. Brenda is inspired by the beauty and mindfulness she experiences in her own practice. Her joy is in sharing that beauty with you.
Helen is a passionate yoga and dance enthusiast. She has been practising yoga for over thirteen years and is a certified Yoga Teacher. Her classes focus on ‘flow’, weaving breath and movement together to flow as one, and typically include sun salutations and a variety of postures that move and flow with the breath, as well as held postures that create moments of ‘pause.’ Helen introduces a meditation theme for each class and invites you to journey on this theme through the vehicle of your body – to awaken your body’s innate wisdom, freedom and joy.
Deb has been teaching yoga for the past 10 years and practicing for 15 years. Her unique blend of hatha, flow, and Vijnana Tensegrity practices emphasize body awareness and alignment. She brings detail into focus, breaking down the poses to experience a refined essence of ease and balance. Her calming voice will soothe you delightfully through a practice that leaves you strengthened, stretched and relaxed.
Josey is a Yoga Elder with 21 years and over 10,000 hours teaching experience. Way back, as an adolescent, she began her first Yoga classes with the Sivananda Yoga people in London. Her strongest influences have been them, Sandra Sammartino’s multi-dimensional energy yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Dona Holleman, Richard Miller and Yoga Nidra and most recently, the Yoga taught by Namgyal Rinpoche, and the teachings of the Sacred Trust in England. She has a background in midwifery, mind body acupressure and other healing modalities that go back 25 years. Her teaching style works deeply with breath and energy, posture and grounding towards growth, healing and integration. She encourages participants to learn and practice the fundamentals and to find their own inner authority for health and strength of body, mind and spirit.
Traci is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and has been teaching yoga for over fifteen years. With a well trained eye Traci guides her students to access a joyful experience of yoga. She teaches her classes with clarity and precision, inviting students to awaken to the body’s intelligence. Traci’s compassionate and descriptive manner encourages participants to work deeply at a level suitable to their needs.
George started breathing at an early age and has had the good fortune to continue almost daily ever since. He is happy to be in the moment, teaching or practicing the pleasurable art of noticing life in all these bodies. A full time professional teacher since 1995, George is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an ERYT (500), is fully certified iniRest Yoga Nidra, has an honours degree in Religious Studies with a focus on Eastern religions and a graduate diploma in Mental Health and Addictions. In spite of this, he has resisted taking responsibility for any particular school of belief or thought. Laughter, love, and surprise. George has had the immense pleasure of learning from and teaching with the inimitable Donna Farhi and has also been largely influenced by Dr. Richard Miller and his contemporary evolution of Yoga Nidra.
Anna has been in the fitness and health industry for 20yrs. She is a professional body builder, weight trainer, wellness coach, and group fitness leader. Her passion and compassion for people and there well being motivates her and her clients alike! Her certifications and memberships include BCRPA, CANFIT PRO, BCABBA, and NPAA. She’s always attending fitness conferences and studying nutrition to keep current. Most of all she loves staying active with her four kids!
Leza grew up absorbing yoga in a church basement while her mom practised with friends. At the time it seemed natural that yoga would grow and develop in a place of spirituality. Leza studied seriously and became a registered yoga instructor (RYT) then followed up her training with additional education in vinyasa and prenatal yoga. Leza has a broad capacity for energizing and inspiring her classes. Whether it’s a challenging flow of postures or a gentle restorative time, she emphasizes shedding stress; a valuable skill in our time! Leza is perpetually resourceful, offering participants alternatives to suit their unique moment in time. She is encouraging; she guides with nurturing words in a loving way. As Leza’s wish is for her students to leave feeling peaceful and whole, she protects a space for rejuvenation: “When participants relax, I see angels arriving at the decompression chamber”.
Jayleen began her yoga journey five years ago. At first it started as a self-practice, until she discovered how amazing it felt practicing with the energy of others, uniting the breath as one. She wanted to immerse herself even deeper into her practice, which led her on a journey to India. Here she took her first intensive 200 hour Hatha Yoga Teaching Training. Following this training, Jayleen continued her studies in Kelowna and hasn’t looked back since. Yoga was a path that found Jayleen when she needed it most; it has opened her eyes and gave her a chance to really connect to herself on and off the mat!
Naomi began her Yoga practice in 2008 after being introduced to it for her own physical/mental rehabilitation. Realizing the many benefits of this practice, she was prompted to begin her teacher training so that she could assist others in optimizing their health and wellness.
Graduating from the Red Door Yoga School with both the Yoga Fitness Leader and 200 hour certification in 2014, Naomi’s intention is to provide an experience of deep relaxation whilst guiding students to heal, strengthen, and reviatlize. Originally trained as a wildlife biologist, Naomi is inspired by the wisdom of nature and loved to help others rediscover their own natural wisdom through Yoga.
